GOOD NEWS from NY TIMES 10/4/21 re. COVID

Good news: My summary of a NY Times article published 10/4/2021.  New COVID cases in the U.S. have fallen by more than a third in the past month.      Ditto worldwide.  Future? uncertain of course, but note these reasons for optimism:  vaccines can transform COVID into a manageable disease, like influenza.

Reaction: truly great news! The simile to the impact of influenza is useful. Influenza was a pandemic in 1918. According to the American Center for Disease Control, the development of means to control the pandemic took years to bring to its current state. Today it's manageable.

My ethics comment: obtaining COVID vaccination is an obligation for every individual who has access to the treatment. There is no valid moral reason to avoid or reject vaccination.

And as the Dalai Lama once said, "If you shift your focus from yourself to others and think more about others' well-being and welfare, it has an immediate liberating effect" on you and them.  Thank you, Sir.
